The first day of England's opening warm-up match against a Bangladesh Cricket Board XI in Chittagong has been abandoned without a ball bowled.

Play was scheduled to begin at 10am local time (5am BST) for the two-day practice match but heavy rain this week has led to a wet outfield and square at the MA Aziz Stadium.

The fixture, and the one that immediately follows on Sunday and Monday, is an opportunity for Haseeb Hameed and Ben Duckett to stake their claim to become Alastair Cook's next opening Test partner.

England captain Cook will miss both warm-ups after returning home to attend the birth of his second child although he is expected to be back in time for the first Test against Bangladesh, which gets under way on October 20.

The BCB XI named a 12-man squad last week which will be captained by Sabbir Rahman and features seven players with international experience.
