Moeen Ali is targeting a return to England's Test team following his fine form with Worcestershire

Moeen Ali is hoping his form with Worcestershire will lead to a return to the England Test team.

The all-rounder has had a week to remember scoring a double century (219) in the County Championship win over Yorkshire at Scarborough and returned match figures of eight for 89 with the ball.

Ali retained his place in the squad for the fourth Test against India in Southampton starting on August 30, live on Sky Sports, but has yet to be picked for the Series.

His last Test appearance came against New Zealand in March but another opportunity could now arise after Jonny Bairstow fractured a finger.

Speaking ahead of Worcestershire's Vitality Blast quarter-final against Gloucestershire on Saturday live on Sky Sports, Moeen told Sky Sports News he was hoping he has done enough to be selected.

"We'll see, we are winning 2-1 and playing quite well. I know we lost the last game but I feel like we have played quite well in the Test matches," he said.

"If I get the nod it will be great, if not then not a problem.

"I don't take anything for granted. I'm just trying to stay in the present at the moment. I'm playing well and I just want to keep up the form with Worcestershire and hopefully with England as well.

"I'm just trying to do my best, put my name up there again and see what happens.

"If I get the call then great but if not I hope the guys that are playing do really well.

"For me it's about preparing to play and if I don't get the call then obviously I will have to go and play county cricket. I will try to improve and get better in the nets."
