Peter Moores sacked as England head coach following Strauss apppointment

Peter Moores has left his role as England head coach.
The announcement by the ECB came shortly after Andrew Strauss was confirmed in the newly-created role of director of England cricket.
England Assistant Coach Paul Farbrace will take charge of the England team for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand while Strauss and the ECB consider their options for a long-term replacement.
Moores' exit comes following the squad’s return from the tour of the West Indies, where England were held to a drawn series by their unfancied hosts – losing the final Test in Bridgetown by five wickets.

An ECB statement said: "Peter is a man of great integrity and has offered a huge amount to England cricket.
"He is admired by the players, his colleagues at the ECB and right across the game and deserves both our deep thanks and the widest recognition for his commitment and contribution.
"The last year has been a period of transition and rebuilding in which Peter has nurtured new talent, developed new players and laid the foundations for the new coaching structure to build on.
"This decision has been made as we focus on the future and our need to build the right approach and deliver success over the next five years within a new performance structure."
Moores was originally appointed as head coach back in 2007 after a disastrous Ashes tour resulted in the resignation of Duncan Fletcher.
The two-year spell included Test series defeats to India (twice), Sri Lanka and South Africa but it was his relationship with batsman Kevin Pietersen which was reportedly the primary reason for his removal in January 2009.
Moores returned to county cricket and was offered the role of Lancashire coach where he guided them to their first County Championship title since 1934.
However, Moores was reappointed as head coach in April 2014, replacing Andy Flower in the wake of England’s Ashes whitewash in Australia.
An encouraging 3-1 Test series victory over India followed a 3-2 defeat to Sri Lanka but Moores’ critics rounded on him again in the wake of an abysmal 2015 World Cup, in which England failed to progress from the group stage.
