England captain Eoin Morgan feels relaxed approach is vital to team's good form

Eoin Morgan says a relaxed approach has been vital for England after his starring role in their ODI win over New Zealand.

Morgan plundered an excellent 113 from just 82 balls to level the series at 2-2 as England chased down 350 to win by seven wickets with six overs to spare.

The win, in which Joe Root also scored a second ton of the series, tees things up nicely for Saturday’s decider at Chester-le-Street, in Durham and was secured with another demonstration of the adventurous playing style which England have adopted in the wake of their disastrous World Cup campaign.

England's success in this series, with four scores over 300, the first time they have achieved the feat, is a far cry from their miserable group stage exit from that tournament.

Much has been made of the attacking approach they have resolved to take and Morgan, who failed to pass 46 in Australia and New Zealand earlier this year, is benefiting from it as much as anyone.

Asked whether he has undergone a change in his batting he said: "It's more the carefree attitude.

"The guys are pretty relaxed in the changing room and we're trying to keep things as raw as possible and concentrate on the process rather than the result and it seems to be working for us at the moment."

More from England V New Zealand, Odi Series

Indeed, such is their determination to stick with the philosophy that has reaped huge rewards recently, Morgan believes it currently takes precedence over results - for the time being.

"I think the style is more important," he added. "We're trying to change something that probably doesn't come as naturally as other nations, and it's the way we play and it's very encouraging at the moment.

"We've played very consistently with the bat but it's no good trying to change something if you're not doing it in a winning side so that's a massive bonus.

"Going into Durham's game, there's a lot on the line. We'll be firmly focused on the process playing against a champion side like New Zealand."

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum thought his side had done more than enough to wrap up a series win.

"It was an incredible run chase," he said.

"I thought at half way with 350 on the board, it's a whole lot of runs and we knew they were going to have to play well to beat us and play well they did.

"To win in 44 overs, they blew us off the park again and two great hundred from Morgs and Joe Root - we need to be better than that.

"But credit where credit's due, they were too good for us today."
