The West Indies Cricket Board have reinstated Phil Simmons as head coach of the national side.

Simmons was suspended for publicly criticising the selectors for the squad they picked for the one-day series against Sri Lanka.

Simmons - who only took charge earlier this year - had questioned why all-rounders Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard continued to be left out.

The WICB have promised to investigate the allegations made by Simmons, and take any necessary and appropriate action on the conclusion of their investigations.

A statement released by the WICB on behalf of Simmons read: "I regret my public outburst during a press conference...and the revelation of the vote that took place at the selection meeting.

"I extend a public apology to all whom I may have offended. I have personally apologised to my fellow selectors and the WICB and now do so again publicly.I am looking forward to putting this behind me and doing the job I enjoy with the West Indies' senior men's teams."

Eldine Baptiste took over for the tour of Sri Lanka, during which the hosts have won both Tests and all three ODIs. The tourists play the second T20 international on Wednesday having lost the first by 20 runs in Kandy on Monday.
