Shane Watson left out of Australia ODI squad for India series

Shane Watson has not made the Australia squad for this month's one-day series against India.

The 34-year-old all-rounder retired from Tests last September but the veteran of 190 ODIs had hoped to continue playing at international level in limited overs.

However, James Faulkner, Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell are the three all-rounders to have been named in the squad.

Faulkner, a big-hitting seam bowler, has been recalled after missing the one-day series in England due to a drink driving conviction.

In the absence of the injured Mitchell Starc, Peter Siddle and Nathan Coulter-Nile, last year's World Cup winners have named a pair of uncapped seamers in the shape of Scott Boland and Joel Paris.

And South Australian seamer Kane Richardson, who played eight ODIs in 2013 and 2014, has also been recalled to a squad which does not included a specialist spinner.

Josh Hazlewood is another seamer in the squad, despite having played in all six Tests against New Zealand and West Indies over the course of the Australian summer.

Head selector Rod Marsh said of the new boys: "Scott has continued to impress the selection panel, having bowled very well for Victoria this year. He certainly deserves this chance at the top level.

"Joel is an exciting young left-arm bowler who swings the ball well and has bowled beautifully in the Big Bash League for the Perth Scorchers.

"He has had very good figures in short-form cricket and we really want him to make the most of this opportunity.

"Kane has had a taste of cricket at the international level and, although that has been interrupted on occasions through injury, we think he is ready to perform consistently for Australia."
