Australia paceman Josh Hazlewood has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee after pleading guilty to a charge of dissent after confronting the umpires on day four of the second Test against New Zealand.
Hazlewood was convinced he had Kane Williamson trapped lbw and when umpire Ranmore Martinesz's original not out decision was upheld by the third umpire, the Australians converged on the umpires.
Hazlewood could be heard to swear at Martinesz on the field about the decision, in which third umpire Richard Illingworth determined Williamson had got bat on ball before being struck on the pad.
The 25-year-old has now been fined by the International Cricket Council ahead of the final day's play in Christchurch for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct
Australia fast bowler Jackson Bird said the angry reaction was down to frustration after a tough morning in the field in which they failed to take a wicket.
"We bowled pretty well in the first session and we probably thought it was out, but those 50-50 calls either go your way or they don't," he said.
"It was probably the frustration of the whole session. We'd bowled pretty well and hadn't got a wicket and we'd been pretty close a couple of times."
Australia eventually bowled New Zealand out for 335 and after reaching stumps 70-1, need another 131 on the final day to complete a 2-0 series victory.
