Victoria have clinched a 30th Sheffield Shield title after beating South Australia by seven wickets at Glenelg Oval.

Needing 98 runs to win at the start of the fourth day, Marcus Stoinis (72) and Peter Handscomb (61 not out) helped guide Victoria to victory.

Victoria bowler Jon Holland took 8-162 but their win was built on first-innings centuries from Travis Dean (111) and Handscomb (112), who was named man of the match.

"I'm as proud as I've ever been as a captain and of the young players who have come in and taken first-class cricket by storm," said Victoria captain Matthew Wade.

"Travis Dean, Peter Handscomb, Marcus Stoinis, over the last three years they've come in and dominated in Shield cricket.

"And then we've got (Scott) Boland and (Chris) Tremain who have stepped up terrifically well for us in the last 12 months."
