Australian Glenn Maxwell hits double ton to stake claim for Ashes spot

Glenn Maxwell sent a message to the Australia selectors with a double hundred for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield.

Maxwell was overlooked for the first Ashes Test in Brisbane with Shaun Marsh preferred at No 6.

While Marsh helped Australia to recover from 76-4 to 165-4 against England at the Gabba with 44 not out, Maxwell hit his maiden first-class double century from 226 balls against New South Wales.

Maxwell remains unbeaten at the close of play on 213 off 257 balls, smashing 27 fours and three sixes against a NSW attack that is without Ashes players Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon.
