Ben Dunk and Nathan Reardon have been included in Australia's squad for the Twenty20 series against South Africa in November.

The duo are named in a 13-man party that also contains Shane Watson, with the all-rounder set to make his international comeback from injury having not featured for his country since April.

Wicket-keeper Dunk hit the headlines recently by making a record 229 not out for Tasmania against Queensland in 50-over action, though his efforts still weren't enough to end up on the winning side in the Matador One-Day Cup fixture.

The selectors were unable to call upon several regulars as there is an overlap with the Test series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates. With coach Darren Lehmann away, Trevor Bayliss steps in as interim head coach.

Mitchell Johnson, Glenn Maxwell and David Warner are all notable absentees, while James Faulkner has been named in the squad but his inclusion is subject to him not being part of the Test team.

Experienced duo

With some of their leading names in T20 missing, New South Wales youngsters Sean Abbott, Pat Cummins and Nic Maddinson have been selected by Australia, along with the experienced pair of Doug Bollinger and Cameron White.

"This series of three matches provides new captain Aaron Finch the opportunity to really work with the T20 squad after commencing his tenure as captain with a win against Pakistan in the one-off T20 a couple of weeks ago," Australia national selector Rod Marsh said.

"The squad itself includes a good blend of youth and experience, providing Aaron with multiple options with both bat and ball. We've seen some good form in Matador One-Day Cup recently from players such as Cameron White, Nathan Reardon, Ben Dunk and Ben Cutting and they've been rewarded for those good performances.

"Shane Watson also returns from injury and we certainly know the destruction he is capable of causing in this format of the game."

The three-match series against the Proteas gets underway in Adelaide on November 5. The two teams then move on to Melbourne on November 7, with the final fixture taking place in Sydney two days later.
