Australia opener Chris Rogers to undergo scans after Lord's exit
Thursday 23 July 2015 08:34, UK
Australia opening batsman Chris Rogers has been sent for further scans after suffering a dizzy spell during the fourth day of the second Investec Ashes Test at Lord's.
The tourists' medical team believe the issue may have been precipitated by a delayed ear problem initially caused when he was struck on the helmet on the second day of the Test.
Rogers retired hurt on 49 on the fourth morning having slumped to his haunches and called for medical attention.
Speaking after the end of the Test, Australia team doctor Peter Brukner said: "The initial scans have cleared him of any serious damage. It appears the most likely diagnosis is a delayed ear problem related to being struck on day two."
The Australians, who trained at Derby on Wednesday ahead of their three-day tour match, have not ruled the veteran batsman out of the third Test at Edgbaston which starts on July 29.
Brukner said: "We are confident this is something we can manage in the lead up to the third Test. As a precaution he'll be reviewed by the specialist in London again on Wednesday before rejoining the touring party."
Rogers, who missed Australia's two Tests against West Indies last month due to concussion, is to retire from international cricket at the end of this series.
He has been in impressive form, scoring 95 in the first innings of the first Test in Cardiff, an impressive 173 in the opening innings at Lord’s, and 49 before he was forced to retire in the second.
Fellow-opener David Warner said his team-mate had complained of 'seeing the Lord's grandstand move' prior to being led from the field.
He said: "I came down the wicket and I had to look twice, because I didn't really know what was going on. He actually said to me 'the grandstand is moving' and I said 'No, it's not'.
"I was worried, and so was he. I had no idea what was going on. He said 'I don't know what's happening here', and I said to him 'Just sit down'."
