Australia's medical staff will continue to monitor opening batsman Chris Rogers after he finally rejoined the squad on Friday night.

The 37-year-old was forced to retire ill from his second innings in the second Investec Ashes Test against England last Sunday, two days after being struck on the back of the head by a delivery from James Anderson.

Rogers missed the rest of the match, complaining of dizziness and becoming disorientated, but he was cleared of any kind of concussion-related issue.

Further scans in midweek showed an inner ear problem was causing a balance issue, but Australia hope he will be available to play in the third Test at Edgbaston, which starts on Wednesday.

Shaun Marsh is on standby to replace Rogers if he is deemed not to be ready for the match - the series is tied 1-1 after Australia's wide-margin win at Lord's.

Marsh scored a century in Australia's tour match against Derbyshire on Thursday.
