Ashes 2015: England's Stuart Broad thinks the team will be much-improved this week

Paceman Stuart Broad says he thinks the public will see a different England team in the third Investec Ashes Test at Edgbaston this week, following their disappointing effort at Lord’s.

Having won the first Test, the England side arrived at Lord’s in confident mood, only to bat poorly and suffer a humiliating 405-run defeat.

But Broad, who has impressed with the ball so far in the series, says he does not think there will be a repeat in the third Test, which gets underway on Wednesday.

England have tinkered with their batting line-up, calling up the in-form Jonny Bairstow to replace Gary Ballance and promoting Ian Bell to number three, where he will bat ahead of Joe Root and Bairstow.

And Broad told the Daily Telegraph: "In the first innings especially (at Lord's), the 10 wickets we lost, they weren't good balls.

"We gave them 10 wickets, and in Test match cricket you've got to make teams work hard for their wickets.

"I think when we get to Edgbaston you'll see a very determined, steely, skilful batting line-up for England. I think it'll be a big change from Lord's."

And, despite the heavy second Test defeat, Broad thinks there is no need for doom and gloom ahead of the third and fourth Tests, which are taking place at grounds where the hosts have fared well of late.

"Let's not forget that Edgbaston and Trent Bridge are two fantastic grounds for the England cricket team," said Broad.

"We should have a lot of confidence. The last Test I played at Edgbaston, Cooky (Alastair Cook) got 294 (against India in 2011) and we won by an innings.

"It's a huge week. I read somewhere that England haven't won the third Ashes Test since 1981, which has got to change.

"A lot has been written this week about it being the end of the world, like we're losing 10-0.

"But, actually, it's 1-1. They've played fantastically one week, we've played fantastically one week. Let battle commence.

"In an Ashes series, it's so crucial to be mentally and physically fresh.

"It's crucial that we don't get to Edgbaston still hung over or fearing what happened at Lord's. We need to be quite clear that we performed badly, but this is a new week."
