Australian cricket fan Marcus Naughton has revealed how he wound up Stuart Broad with the simplest of sledges during the second Ashes Test.

“See you in five minutes,” Naughton told Broad as the England star made his way through the Long Room to bat at Lord’s in the second Ashes Test.

Broad appeared not to see the funny side and responded by waving his bat at the Australian, who captured the moment in a picture, the South West News Service reported.

Naughton’s friends claimed on Facebook that he had been banned from all English cricket over the incident, but he denied that was the case.

“With Facebook many stories are over-exaggerated and this is another of those,” Naughton said.

Many Australians still regard Broad as public enemy No 1, mainly due to his refusal to walk at Trent Bridge in 2013.

“Unfortunately it seems many Australians still have hard feelings over the Stuart Broad incident from many years ago as you can see from the posts,” Naughton continued.

“I will however tell you there was a very small incident, none of which resulted in me being ejected from the MCC members nor getting my membership revoked and was resolved very civilly.

“After which my girlfriend and I stayed until hours after the close of play and mingled with players from both sides afterwards. It was a very enjoyable day for both of us.”
