David Warner has warned West Indies that Australia's batsmen will come out swinging when the Test series starts this week.

The Aussies won both Tests in the Caribbean earlier this year but had to rein in their instinct for scoring quickly on sluggish pitches in Dominica and Jamaica.

And Warner is ready to make up for lost time against the tourists who go into Thursday's first Test in Hobart on the back of an embarrassing 10-wicket defeat to a novice Cricket Australia XI.

Asked if Australia might go easy on West Indies, Warner said: "Not at all. We have to come out and execute our skills as well as we can. As a batting unit we know they are going to come real hard in the first session.

"They did that when we were in the West Indies, they got early wickets against us. We had to play the sensible game of playing straight but that was for the conditions over there.

"Conditions here are a little bit in favour of the batsmen - you can actually play your shots."

Warner scored 592 runs in three Tests against New Zealand but has found it tough going against West Indies in five previous matches, with both his strike-rate and average significantly down on his overall stats.

The opener was dismissed three times by Jerome Taylor earlier this year, and once by Kemar Roach, and he expects a challenge from the same bowlers in Australian conditions.

"It will be interesting to see what lengths they bowl," he said. "I know Jerome Taylor likes to bowl it full because he likes to swing the ball. A high percentage of his wickets are caught behind - that's something we have to take notice of.

"And Kemar Roach is a very good bowler, he swings them away, sort of angles it into the right-handers. We will have to be on top of our game."
