Captain Dane van Niekerk ripped through the India middle order as South Africa inflicted a first defeat of the Women's World Cup on Mithali Raj's side.
The South Africa leg-spinner took 4-22 from her 10 overs as India collapsed from 47-1 to 65-7 before they were eventually bowled out for 158.
Earlier, opener Lizelle Lee had top-scored with a 65-ball knock 92 and van Niekerk made 57 as South Africa finished on 273-9, setting them on their way to a 115-run win.
Meanwhile, Sophie Devine hit a blistering 93 from just 41 balls as New Zealand thrashed Pakistan, completing an eight-wicket victory with 35 overs to spare at Taunton.
Pakistan skipper Sana Mir (50) made a half-century but that was the only score of note as Pakistan were skittled for 144, Hannah Row the pick of the Kiwis bowlers in taking 3-22.
New Zealand needed just 15 overs to knock off the runs, largely thanks to Devine's incredible hitting but the No 3 was unable to see it through, falling with just two required for victory.
