Dale Steyn's groin injury keeps him out of second Test with India

South Africa's bowling options for the second Test against India have been further weakened by the absence of paceman Dale Steyn.

Steyn suffered a groin injury during the first Test in Mohali - forcing him to miss the final two days - and a failed fitness test on Friday has ruled him out of the second match in Bangalore.

South Africa will also be without Vernon Philander, whose series is over because of an ankle injury he sustained playing football, and they have called up Kyle Abbott as his replacement.

The injuries leave the Proteas with just three fast-bowling options in Abbott, Kagiso Rabada and fit-again Morne Morkel for the match, starting on Saturday morning.

But captain Hashim Amla is confident South Africa can cope without Steyn and Philander as they look to level the series after being beaten heavily in the opener.

"Obviously, losing Dale, one of the best bowlers in the world, and Philander, one of the best all-rounders in the world, certainly changes the dynamics of the team," he said.

"But the guys who will replace them are quality cricketers. We are fortunate to have great depth in our side, especially in the bowling. We still have a potent bowling attack to back it up.

"Kyle has been one of our outstanding reserve bowlers in the last couple of years. He is similar to Vernon, in the  sense that he is consistent in where he lands the ball, and you know what you will get."
