Former Test batsman appointed as convenor of selectors
Cricket South Africa have appointed former Test opener Andrew Hudson as their new convenor of selectors.
Hudson, 45, who played in 35 Tests for the Proteas between 1992 and 1998, takes over the role from interim head Gerald Majola.
CSA chief executive Majola had put himself in charge on a temporary basis following the resignation of Mickey Arthur and the sacking of the previous panel, consisting of convenor Mike Procter, Craig Matthews, Mustapha Khan and Winkie Ximaya, in January.
"CSA is very pleased that Andrew Hudson has accepted the job because he has all the attributes to make an outstanding convenor of selectors," Majola said in a statement.
Acumen
"Andrew also fully understands and supports the vision of CSA and brings to the panel's table an outstanding pedigree in cricket and managerial acumen."
Hudson said: "I am looking forward to getting involved with the Proteas again.
"They have done well recently and I am confident that we also have the emerging talent to take our team forward."
Majola also revealed that another former player, Shafiek Abrahams, has been included on the new panel, while Kepler Wessels - also on the interim board - will continue to be part of the management set-up as a batting consultant.
"Shafiek is ideally qualified as he is a member of the national high performance coaching staff," Majola added.
"He is also the South Africa Under-19s national convenor of selectors, which allows him a full view of the emerging talent from CSA's pipeline, and is a former national selector.
Advice
"Kepler Wessels, who was also appointed to the panel on an interim basis along with me, will continue to be the Proteas batting consultant and will also be available to offer selection advice to Andrew Hudson and coach Corrie van Zyl.
"Kepler adds much value to the Proteas' set-up and CSA is very pleased to continue to have him on board. Not being a selector, also allows him to pursue his career as a commentator."
Hudson will take up his role on June 1.
Meanwhile, Majola announced that the national coaching position will be advertised in the coming months as CSA seeks a long-term replacement to van Zyl, who has a short-term contract until the end of next year's World Cup.
