Former captain quits as chief selector of Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe's head of selectors Alistair Campbell has quit the post in order to focus on a career in the media. The former captain has stepped down with immediate effect but will stay on as chairman of the national body's cricket committee. He will be replaced by former Zims wicketkeeper Wayne James, who joins another ex-international, Kevin Curran, and Givemore Makoni as selectors. "I just thought there was a conflict of interest between commentating and selecting," Campbell said. "There was quite a lot I had to do, so I didn't have time to watch games as I should. "I'm not walking away. I'm still very much involved as chairman of the cricket committee, which is the most important position." The 39-year-old, who played 60 Tests and 188 ODIs, was instrumental in guiding Zimbabwe's return to the five-day format this year after a six-year exile due to a rift between players and administrators of the troubled nation. "We've come a long way," he added. "We've started playing decent cricket again. I'm really proud of what I've done. We can only move from strength to strength."
