New Zealand to keep attacking, says Brendon McCullum

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has vowed to continue with an attacking approach when his side take on the West Indies in Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final in Wellington.

The Black Caps’ positive tactics saw them safely through the pool stage with an unbeaten record and McCullum has promised more of the same at the Basin Reserve.

"I think it's safe to assume that we'll still try to play an entertaining and attacking brand of cricket," said McCullum.

“We want to play that brand of cricket. We've identified that that is what is going to make us a team which is going to be tough to beat and I can't see that changing.

"Just because there's pressure on a game, it shouldn't take you away from what's your best opportunity to win.

"The brand of cricket we've played has really captivated New Zealand and is starting to make people around the world sit up and take notice of how we go about our work.

"It's a big game, but we'll go out there and enjoy the moment, enjoy the stage that we'll be presented and a full house at Wellington and hopefully we perform accordingly."

McCullum admits the West Indies are unpredictable opponents and are capable of claiming a surprise victory but he is prepared to be patient.

“In horse racing parlance, I'm a big horse racing fan, if we miss the start, it doesn't mean that we're out of the race,” said the 33-year-old.

"I think the horse has never been better and we've got every chance in this game to be able to go out there and win, even if things aren't 100 per cent.”

The New Zealand team will not be finalised until after a pitch inspection, but McCullum said it is likely to be the same XI who played the first five pool games.

That would mean the return of fast bowler Adam Milne, who missed the final pool match against Bangladesh because of a shoulder injury.
