Get ready for Freddie - Vaughan
Michael Vaughan has promised to return Andrew Flintoff to his blockbuster best.
Michael Vaughan has promised to return Andrew Flintoff to his blockbuster best ahead of the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
Flintoff has cut a disconsolate figure during England's Ashes whitewash, scoring just 254 runs in 10 innings.
Vaughan's return will relieve the big all-rounder of the captaincy duties, and the Yorkshireman admitted it is time to get 'Freddie' back to his best.
"I want to see Freddie back on the pitch, enjoying his cricket - trying to smack it out of the ground, trying to bowl fast," said Vaughan.
"Being the vocal leader that he is, he's still going to have a major leadership role to play, as he did before when I was captain.
"I want to see him contributing with bat, ball and on the infield, and in the dressing room because that's where he leads from the best."
Vaughan returns for the tri-series involving Australia and New Zealand, hoping to inspire England to their first one-day series win in over two years.
Australia coach John Buchanan has promised to target the batsman's physical shortcomings after injury, but Vaughan insists he is fit and raring to go.
"Six months ago I got told I might not play again, so to be sat here ready to play on Tuesday is a great thing for me.
"Since I've been out here I've been testing (the knee) every day.
"I'd like to have played a few more games if I'm honest but I couldn't arrange the games.
"In the games I have played, the twisting and turning, the running between the wickets, the overs in the field, I've had no reaction.
"The big test now is international cricket."
