Northamptonshire have signed spinner Nicky Boje as a replacement overseas player for fellow South African Johan van der Wath. Boje has taken 100 wickets in his 43 Test appearances and has 96 victims in his 115 One Day Internationals. Head coach David Capel said: "The search to replace Johan van der Wath with an overseas fast bowler has proved a difficult one as many of the world's finest cricketers are either competing in the World Twenty20 or have previously been registered by other first class counties. "With the restricted availability of Monty Panesar and likelihood of playing on used pitches more favourable to spin bowling we have decided to recruit the services of the former South Africa spin-bowling all-rounder Nicky Boje. "He brings a wealth of cricketing experience into our team as well as having a proven track record with bat and ball in both first-class and one-day cricket. "He will also be able to greatly assist our younger cricketers and in particular Graeme White as a slow left-arm bowler." The 34-year-old Boje will be a welcome addition to the Northants squad, with all-rounder Steven Crook and loan signing Iain Sutcliffe currently injured and the departure of Australian Chris Rogers imminent.
