All-rounder looking ahead to trip Down Under in 2008

South Africa's Jacques Kallis feels beating Australia in a Test series would be the pinnacle of his stellar career. The Proteas are scheduled to tour Down Under in 2008, after they have travelled to England. However, Kallis is already looking forward to the challenge of facing the best team in the world, particularly as Australia have won every series since South Africa's readmission in 1992. The 32-year-old all-rounder feels defeating the Aussies in their own backyard would be an achievement to rank alongside winning the World Cup.

Key goals

"I am not huge on personal goals but as a team the key goals for South Africa definitely would be winning the World Cup or beating Australia and England in England next year," he said. "Beating Australia would probably be the number one thing for me. It is a tough tour and they are the best in the world. "You want to test yourself against them and beating them would be equivalent to winning the World Cup in a Test series and I would want to be heavily involved in it."
Rounded side
Kallis will be a key player for the Proteas in the future, a point he proved in the recent Test series win over Pakistan when he scored 421 runs in two matches. But it is the bowling ranks that look particularly promising with the likes of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel coming through the ranks and making an instant impression in the international arena. "We have also found a few fast bowlers that have come through," Kallis admitted. "Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Andre Nel are obviously bowling well now and we have the experience of (Shaun) Pollock. "So I think we are finally getting a nice rounded side where we have got most of our bases covered."
