Drain of young talent from South Africa continues

Derbyshire have signed South African batsman Dominic Telo on a two-year contract. Telo averaged 58.90 in eight matches for Western Province last season, including three centuries. The 22-year-old does not count as an overseas player under the Kolpak ruling and will be eligible to play for England after a four-year qualifying period. "Dominic is one of the brightest young batsmen in the South African game and we are naturally delighted to have tempted him to Derbyshire," said the county's head of cricket John Morris. "It is important to note that Dominic has signed with the intention of qualifying so that he can eventually play as an English cricketer. At such a young age, time is certainly on his side."
