The best win of my career
England bowler James Anderson told
Cricket AM that England's comeback against New Zealand was his greatest ever victory.
With Michael Vaughan's side seemingly dead and buried at Old Trafford, England dug deep and produced an amazing performance to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Monty Panesar was the star of the show taking six wickets in the second innings as the hosts began fighting their way back from the 180 run deficit in the first innings.
Andrew Strauss completed a memorable Test with his 12th Test century, as England comfortably chased down the 294 runs target set by New Zealand.
"I think it's probably the best win I've been involved in," said Anderson. "I've never had such a big first innings deficit and comeback to win by six wickets, which in the end turned out to be pretty comfortable.
"It was incredible really from the position that we were in - 180 run deficit from the first innings - so to come back from there was just unbelievable."
A middle-order collapse from England's batting line up meant Anderson had to enter the fray much earlier than expected during the first innings.
But as bleak as things looked at that point he revealed he wasn't thinking about defeat when he headed to the middle to partner Stuart Broad.
"We weren't really thinking about it at that time because we were just trying to get as many runs as we possibly could," explained Anderson.
"We didn't really think about the follow on, which we just about got past, but instead we just tried to get as close as possible to New Zealand's first innings total."
Relax
After such a stunning victory and with over a week and a half between the second and third Test at Trent Bridge it's only natural that the England side would want to go out and celebrate.
However Anderson remained tight lipped on the details of their celebrations, only revealing they had a nice time 'relaxing'!"
"We had a little look out," said Anderson. "Obviously we had a bit of a break after that as well before the third Test so we found it was a good time to go out and relax."
