Evergreen paceman to play on past his 40th year

Andrew Caddick has signed a one-year contract extension with Somerset that will take him past his 40th birthday. The former England paceman was out of contract in September but his signature means the county has all its first-team regulars tied down for 2009. Despite spending most of the season recovering from back surgery, Caddick has returned to full fitness and is keen to play a key part for the Cidermen in the next campaign.

No doubt

"Eight months ago it was all up in the air prior to a back operation," Caddick told the Western Daily Press. "It has come right, even though it has taken a lot longer than I thought it would. There is no doubt about it, I will be giving 100 per cent for this club whether I am 20 or 40." Director of cricket Brian Rose said: "With his undoubted ability and wicket-taking potential, it was absolutely vital for Somerset cricket that we kept him, if he wanted to keep playing. "He knows he is good enough and he's fit and raring to go."
