Former England captain ready to 'become a soldier again'

Kevin Pietersen insists Peter Moores is a "fantastic guy" despite his very public fall-out with the former England coach. The 28-year-old resigned from his position as England captain this week following intense speculation over his working relationship with Moores. The situation came to a head when former skipper Michael Vaughan was left out of the squad to tour the West Indies, much to Pietersen's disappointment. The pair paid the price for their disagreement as both lost their jobs. Moores was sacked by the England and Wales Cricket Board over the incident.

Passionate

Despite admitting he couldn't move the team forward working alongside the former Sussex coach, Pietersen has no personal gripe with the 46-year-old. "He's a fantastic guy," he told Sky News. "I've heard a comment of his where he says he wants England to win and he does want England to win. He's passionate about winning. "I have absolutely no personal problem with Peter Moores, I just didn't feel that me and him could take the team forward." Having given up the captaincy there were fears that Pietersen would decide to end his international career and instead make a lucrative move to the IPL. However, the South African-born batsman insists he never had any thoughts about turning his back on his adopted homeland.
Soldier again
"I never, ever once thought that I'm going to leave England and I've been betrayed and I'm angry towards anybody at all," he added. "I just thought, okay, I'm gonna have to become a soldier again and go back and do batting, which I absolutely love." With Pietersen standing down, Andrew Strauss will lead the squad on the tour to the Caribbean, which will see England play four Tests, a one-off Twenty20 International and a five-match one-day series. The ECB have decided against appointing an interim coach to replace Moores, meaning Andy Flower and Phil Neale will be in charge.
