England skipper ready for Ashes challenge
Captain Andrew Strauss revealed his delight after England maintained their winning start to the summer with a 58-run victory over West Indies at Edgbaston.
After a comprehensive Test series win over the Windies, England wrapped up the ODI series 2-0 after another encouraging limited-overs display in Birmingham.
Matt Prior scored a career-best 87 and Owais Shah 75 as England posted 328-7, their third highest one-day total, which the visitors never seriously threatened.
Strauss told
Sky Sports 1: "We played well again today, I thought we were excellent with the bat. I'm delighted to win the series, it provides more momentum for the lads.
"We've worked hard and it is good to see the lads get the rewards. We didn't let up at any stage in the Tests or the one-dayers and that is what you have to do.
"We need to do more of it but it's a good start."
Excited
Strauss returns to LV County Championship action with Middlesex over the next few weeks in preparation for the Ashes while the majority of the XI which totally outplayed the West Indies turn their attention to the ICC World Twenty20.
And the 32-year-old admits he is handing over the leadership to Paul Collingwood "excited" about the challenges to come over the remainder of the summer.
"In international cricket you have to put in performances day in, day out and over the last month or so we've been able to do that," said Strauss.
"There have not been a lot of negatives to come out but there are clearly tougher tests ahead for us.
"We are far from the finished article at this stage but what I am really excited about is that the guys are very keen to improve.
"The work ethic has been tremendous and everything that has happened over the last month can only help us come the first day of the Ashes.
"From my point of view my attention starts turning towards that series now."
