South African-born batsman hoping for tour chance

Jonathan Trott is hoping to get the chance to pick up from where he left off when England announce their squad to tour South Africa. The touring party will be revealed live on Sky Sports News at noon, with the Cape Town-born Trott in the running to be part of the Test and one-day sides. The Warwickshire batsman scored 119 on his Test debut against Australia at The Oval in August - putting the struggling Ravi Bopara under pressure. However Trott was forced to miss the one-day internationals and ICC Champions Trophy as the squads were selected before his innings. And although the right-hander would be pitted against the country of his birth, he is just keen to continue his England career.

Challenge

"Playing against any international team is no different," he said. "Just because it is South Africa does not change things, any game for England is going to be difficult and one I look forward to the challenge of wherever it is. "I will be raring to go if selected, there will be no nervousness or apprehension. "If people choose to (boo) you have to get on with it. You have no choice." Kent opener Joe Denly is also pushing for a call-up to the Test team, having impressed during his appearances for the one-day side. He could be joined by country team-mate Geraint Jones, with the Ashes-winning wicketkeeper in the running to provide back-up to Matt Prior. Steven Davies, who made his one-day international debut at the ICC Champions Trophy, James Foster and Chris Read are also in contention. Adil Rashid and Monty Panesar will battle it out for the second spinner's spot, while Ian Bell is another player hoping for inclusion. Kevin Pietersen, though, will be declared fit, while Steve Harmison should be handed the chance to continue his international career.
