West Indies reached 169-2 in reply to New Zealand's first-innings 293 on a rain-shortened day two of the deciding Test in Barbados.
Resuming on 32-0, Chris Gayle and Kraigg Brathwaite extended their opening stand to 79 before Gayle holed out for 42 to give New Zealand spinner Mark Craig (1-63) the breakthrough.
Brathwaite and Kirk Edwards put on 74 in quick time but left-arm seamer Neil Wagner (1-11) struck shortly before the lunch break.
Tim Southee took a smart diving catch at short cover to get rid of Brathwaite for 68.
Darren Bravo (8no) joined Edwards (42no), only for rain to arrive at the Kensington Oval early in the afternoon session, cutting short the day after just 33.2 overs.
The three-match series is level at 1-1.
