Felipe Massa has revealed Nico Hulkenberg texted him to apologise for their collision at last weekend's Singapore Grand Prix.
The pair made contact at Turn Three as Massa exited the pit-lane, sending Hulkenberg into the barrier and out of the race.
The stewards handed the Force India driver a three-place grid penalty for Suzuka after finding him guilty of causing the collision.
"He wrote me an SMS to apologise, which was nice to be honest," Massa told reporters in Japan.
"I have no problem, we were fighting and maybe he was too optimistic to close the door like that. But it is nice to have the message."
Massa claimed there is nothing he could have done to prevent the accident as he was unable to see Hulkenberg until it was too late.
"The problem was I left the pit-lane and doing the corner on the left I was in front... from that angle, it is impossible for me to see him," he added.
"I only saw him when I started braking, so I couldn't do anything. I was in front and I couldn't see a car there. It was much easier for him to see me than for me to hit him."
Having originally stated his disbelief at receiving the penalty, Hulkenberg has since accepted responsibility.
"I looked at the video footage and I probably should have given him a bit more room, because he was on the inside and I had some space on the right," he said.
"But visibility is poor when you are alongside each other and I thought I was ahead enough, but I wasn't clearly. So we take a penalty here, but it is behind and we will make the best of it."
