Fijian great Vijay Singh holds a two-shot lead after the opening round of the US Senior Open in Ohio.
On the same day his nation won their first Olympic Games gold medal in the rugby sevens competition, Singh shot an opening round of 66 to claim the early advantage at Scioto Country Club.
Singh made five birdies in tough scoring conditions with his only dropped shot of the day coming at the 17th.
Only 12 players managed to break par on the opening day and Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez was one of them, as he moved into a tie for second.
Jimenez made just the two birdies in his opening round, at the 10th and 12th, but he was one of very few players to go through Thursday without making a bogey.
He was joined in second by four American players - Jeff Gallagher, Glen Day, Gene Sauers and Michael Allen.
Ian Woosnam is one stroke further back after an opening round of 69, which included three birdies and two bogeys, while British Senior Open champion Paul Broadhurst opened his tournament with a level-par 70.
But it was not the greatest of starts for 2014 US Senior Open champion Colin Montgomerie, who is six shots off the pace after a round of 72.
Montgomerie made two birdies but also mixed in four bogeys including back-to-back dropped shots at the eighth and ninth holes.
