Dame Laura Davies looks forward to the new LPGA Tour season

SHIMA, JAPAN - NOVEMBER 09: Laura Davies of England reacts after a putt on the 18th hole during the final round of the Mizuno Classic at Kintetsu Kashikoj

As the new LPGA Tour season got underway with a slice of history this weekend, we asked Dame Laura Davies for her predictions for the year.

Na Yeon Choi may have snatched victory in the season-opening Coates Golf Championship in Florida, but it was teenage sensation Lydia Ko who stole the headlines as she became the youngest golfer in history - male or female - to be ranked No 1 in the world.

Dame Laura believes the 17-year-old could find it difficult to dominate the game due to the vast depth in talent, although the four-time major winner would enjoy seeing Ko battle it out with rising English star Charley Hull in the near future.

The Solheim Cup veteran, a winner of 20 LPGA titles in her glittering career, kindly took time out while away in Australia to take part in a quick Q&A session to discuss the new season.

Q1: Many have predicted that Lydia Ko could dominate the LPGA Tour this season, and for many years to come. Is she the player to beat in 2015?

LD: "I don't think anyone will dominate this season. There are a good few that are playing too well for any one player to dominate."

Q2: Can Charley Hull break through on the LPGA Tour and emulate Lydia Ko’s rise up the world rankings this season, and do you expect these two teenagers to 'enjoy' a long-standing rivalry?

Q3: Michelle Wie finally made her major breakthrough at the US Open last year. What can we expect from her this season?

LD: "I think Michelle will have a big year as long as her injuries don't come back."

Q4: Inbee Park was one of eight South Koreans in the world’s top 20 at the start of the season. Do you see this trend continuing in 2015?

LD: "Yes, the Korean players are very strong, and every year there is a new name that comes on the scene. So I can't see that trend slowing down any time soon."

Q5: Suzann Pettersen and Karrie Webb both ended last year in the world’s top 10. Can the 'old guard' stay competitive this season?

LD: "Yes to both. They are still two of the best ball-strikers in the game, and they remain very competitive."

Q6: Aside from the obvious, who are your players to watch this year? Are there any rookies who could surprise?

LD: "One name - Minjee Lee, the young Australian, for me. She will do very well this year."

Q7: It's Solheim Cup year. How excited are you about this year’s contest, and can Europe make it three wins in a row?

LD: The Solheim Cup is a very big part of this year and getting in the team is a big carrot for all of us. Obviously we are on home soil this year, so we’ve got a big chance of making it three in a row."
