New Ernie Els designed golf course set to open in Malaysia

Ernie Els took time out from the CIMB Classic to examine the progress of his new course - The Els Club Teluk Datai. The four-time major champion made the short journey to Langkawi from Kuala Lumpur to check on final adjustments before the highly-anticipated opening. The Els Club Teluk Datai is being touted by Destination Resorts and Hotels (DRH) and Troon Golf as Southeast Asia's most exotic golf experience and is due to open to the public early next year. Located amongst some of Malaysia's most spectacular landscape, the course is nestled within a centuries-old rainforest with towering lush tropical foliage. Troon golf say: "Our vision is to preserve and enhance the natural environment while creating unique luxury and educational eco-golf experience. "From the array of natural flora and fauna, Els Club Teluk Datai was designed with strict environmentally friendly guidelines and is seeking Audobon Certification - an award winning education and certification program that helps golf courses protect the environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf." The 18 hole par 72 Championship Golf Course stretches to 6,760 yards from the championship tees to 5,369 yards from the forward tees. There are five seafront holes (5, 7, 8, 16 and 17).
