Woods and Dallas quarterback to be pro-am partners at Pebble

Tiger Woods will partner NFL star Tony Romo at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, according to ESPN. Woods announced recently that he would be playing the Pebble Beach event for the first time since 2002 although there were no details at the time who he would partner at the four-day event which starts on February 9. But an ESPN source said that man would be Dallas quarterback Romo, a keen amateur golfer who has tried to qualify for the US Open for the past two years. Woods and Romo have history as pro-am partners. The star pair teamed up at the AT&T National in Washington in 2009. The tournament will mark Tiger's first start of the season on the US Tour although he'll make his 2012 bow at the European Tour's Abu Dhabi Golf Championship on January 26.

Happy memories

Woods has happy memories of Pebble Beach having rallied from a seven-shot deficit to win this event in 2000 before, later that year, going on to win the US Open at the famed Monterrey course by a staggering 15 shots. The 14-time major winner hasn't won a US Tour event since the BMW Championship in September 2009. However, after drifting outside the world's top 50 he ended a two-year victory drought by capturing the Chevron World Challenge - an unofficial event - at the end of 2011. Woods is currently ranked 25th in the world. Romo has partnered two-time major winner John Daly for the last two years at Pebble Beach. The winning pro-am team 12 months ago were D.A. Points, who won the tournament itself, and comedian Bill Murray.
