US-based Swede eyeing Ryder Cup place

Swede Daniel Chopra birdied the 18th to take a two-shot lead after the third round of the Buick Open in Michigan. Chopra leads by two from Americans Woody Austin, Bubba Watson and Dudley Hart after bouncing back from a bogey six at the first. He went bogey-free from there on in, picking up shots at the second, sixth, seventh, 10th and 18th holes on his way to a four-under 68. Watson also carded a 68 and was bogey-free, picking up four birdies, while Austin was out in 37 and back in 32 for a 69. Hart started the day alongside Chopra in a tie for second but had to settle for a 70. Halfway leader Bo Van Pelt shot a 73 and is in a tie for fifth place alongside the in-form Kenny Perry. Chopra, 30th on the FedEx Cup points list, has already won the season-opening Mercedes Championship in Hawaii this year and is chasing a third career PGA Tour victory. A win here on Sunday would fire the US-based Swede into Ryder Cup contention and the 32-year-old is happy to be taking any sort of lead into the final round. "Everybody says it's tough to play with a lead, but we try to get a lead, and two shots is better than one, and three is better than two," he stated. "So the bigger the lead you've got, the better. "It just gives that you little bit of a cushion to allow yourself that one extra hole where maybe you should have made a birdie on that you expected to make birdie and if you don't, it gives you that extra one hole of patience. "That's what I'm going to do out there tomorrow - practice patience all day long."
