New boy Wood just five shots back
Swede Peter Hanson will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the SAS Masters after carding a third round 68 in Stockholm.
Hanson - 43rd on the Order of Merit and chasing just his second victory in 175 European Tour events - is two clear of a group of five players that includes England's Ryder Cup hopeful Nick Dougherty
The 26-year-old Dougherty, who went two in front early in the round, finished with a level par 70 and goes into the final 18 holes tied second alongside two more Swedes in Daniel Chopra and Pelle Edberg, Scot Gary Orr and Dane Soren Kjeldsen.
Hanson bogeyed the third, while his playing partner Dougherty birdied it - but came back with birdies on the fifth, seventh and 16th.
The last of them was the decisive one of the round, Dougherty missing the green and then failing to sink his three-foot par putt.
At 24th in the Ryder Cup standings, Hanson still has a mathematical chance of making the team if he can win the 266,660 euros first prize on Sunday.
"I think I've put myself a little bit too far back, but if I win tomorrow I'll change my mind about taking next week off," said the 30-year-old, whose only Tour victory was in the 2005 Spanish Open.
"I want to give myself every chance. Of course you can feel pressure playing at home, but I think it's more inspirational."
No Swede has won this event since former Ryder Cupper Jesper Parnevik 10 years ago.
Debut
Chris Wood, on his professional debut four weeks after finishing fifth at the Open, is joint ninth on five under after a 68 - disappointing in the event given that he holed his second shot and went to the turn in 29 to be only one behind.
But his back nine was scarred by a double-bogey six on the 12th, and a closing bogey gave him a 68 that left him joint ninth on five under, five behind.
"I can't be disappointed, given how I felt," said the 20-year-old from Bristol.
"I had some food poisoning yesterday, was sick in the night and didn't sleep much. I feel all right now, but I've not eaten anything and didn't feel comfortable with my swing."
