Yauheni Hutarovich sprinted to victory on the opening stage of the Tour of Poland.

The Ag2r-La Mondiale rider edged RusVelo's Roman Maikin into second and Lampre-Merida's Manuele Mori into third in Bydgoszcz.

The stage had started in hot temperatures but was later battered by a freak hailstorm that ground the riders in the breakaway almost to a complete standstill.

The last of the five escapees were caught with 1.7km remaining, which set up a bunch finish that Hutarovich won with a well-timed surge.
