British Pony team have won gold at the European Jumping Championships

The British Pony team have taken Team Gold at the FEI Pony European Jumping Championships in Malmo.

Finishing on an overall score of just one time penalty, the British team pushed Ireland into silver position on four penalties, while France finished with five penalties to secure bronze.

Jodie Hall McAteer, 15, and Tixylix matched their zero penalty score from Thursday to put themselves in contention for the individual medals which will be decided on Sunday’s Grand Prix.

Jack Whitaker, the youngest member of the team at just 13, jumped a brilliant first round clear this morning with the nine year-old chestnut mare Zodianne van de Doevenbree.

Jessica Hewitt, 16, delivered a double clear for GB, but Charlotte Ash still had to produce a faultless display to hold off Ireland and France.

The 16 year-old handled the pressure well, breaking the finish line clear within the time allowed to secure gold.
