The Colombian will join Team Penske as the number two driver in their IZOD IndyCar Series line-up alongside current championship leader Helio Castroneves, although he may still drive in some NASCAR races.

Penske is delighted he has been able to lure Montoya away from his long-term term IndyCar rival Chip Ganassi, who decided not to extend the 37-year-old's contract with his NASCAR outfit.

"Juan is a proven winner at all levels of motorsport," Penske said.

"He has won a lot of races and championships and he has an extremely passionate fan base.

"We look forward to building on his successes together and we believe he will be a great addition to Team Penske."

Montoya has had a long and distinguished career in motorsport having previously driven for the Williams in Formula One.

And the former Indy 500 winner revealed he was honoured to be linking up with Team Penske in IndyCar next season.

"I am really excited to join this legendary team beginning next year," Montoya said.

"I have had the opportunity to drive for some of the best racing teams in the world and I have always admired Roger Penske and his organization.

"I consider it an honour to be offered the opportunity to drive for Team Penske."
