Spies was returning to action this weekend for the first time since the Italian Grand Prix in late May after being sidelined with recurring pain and weakness in his right shoulder and chest.
He underwent reconstructive surgery last October following a crash at the Malaysian GP.
"Just when I was back and starting to feel good, now we have another shoulder injury," said Spies.
"I was going out on the first lap when I made a mistake and spun the rear tyre and high-sided.
"We were starting to feel good, but now we're back to square one."
