Sykes, the defending champion, produced a dominant performance in the first race and was never headed after taking the lead at the first turn.

The Kawasaki Racing Team rider came home 4.275 seconds clear of his team-mate Loris Baz of France with fellow Briton Jonathan Rea (Pata Honda World Superbike) taking third place.

Chaz Davies (Ducati Superbike Team) claimed fourth ahead of Ireland's Eugene Laverty (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki), while Italian Davide Giugliano (Ducati Superbike Team) had to settle for eighth place after crashing on the final lap when in second spot.

The second race was much more competitive but Sykes again took the honours after a thrilling finish to the contest.

The 28-year-old Yorkshireman was involved in a three-way battle for the lead with Baz and Italian Marco Melandri (Aprilia Racing Team) and the lead changed hands on a number of occasions over the closing laps.

However, Sykes managed to edge home 0.338 seconds clear of Baz in a second one-two for the Kawasaki team with Melandri a close third.

Sylvain Guintoli (Aprilia Racing Team) was fourth, followed by Rea and Laverty.

Sykes now heads the standings with 75 points, with Baz second on 71 and Guintoli third on 64.
