Wasps defeat Northumbria while Mavericks overcome Bath in Vitality Netball Superleague

Wasps cemented second spot in the Vitality Superleague with a comfortable win against Northumbria, while Mavericks held off Bath on Friday night.

One of this season's title contenders, Wasps Netball, closed out a convincing 68-46 victory over Team Northumbria at the Ricoh Arena.

The big spending top flight rookies turned up the heat with the score at 28-25 in the second quarter to blow their opponents away and close the gap to three points on leaders Loughborough Lightning, who travel to Severn Stars on Saturday.

In the night's other match, Hertfordshire Mavericks held off a storming fightback from Team Bath to hold out for a 46-45 victory on the road.

The blue and gold were nine goals behind going into the final 15 minutes and almost produced mission impossible as Jamaican international Shantal Slater found her range, but the Mavericks held on to move level on points with their opponents.

On Saturday, Manchester Thunder host Surrey Storm while Severn Stars will look to stop the Loughborough Lightning juggernaut.
