Wasps Netball have confirmed the signings of Monique Thompson and Halimat Adio ahead of their Vitality Superleague title defence.

The two emerging talents become Tamsin Greenway's 13th and 14th signings of the season and will bring further depth to the club's squad ahead of the 2018 campaign beginning in February.

Adio is an England U19 goalkeeper while Thompson is a former Benecos Mavericks attacker and the club's new additions follow the arrivals of England internationals Natalie Haythornthwaite and Rachel Dunn last week.

Both players are set to initially feature for the U21 side but will also provide cover for the first team with Adio set to link up with defender Francesca Williams after the pair previously played together in England's youth set-up.

Wasps director of netball Greenway said: "Halimat and Monique are two exciting prospects that will help us strengthen our first team this season.

"There were times last season where the injuries piled up and left us short in certain positions, and the addition of Halimat and Monique will hopefully see us avoid that this year.

"Monique is a strong and quick attacking player, and Halimat is a great talent defensively. I'm confident that both players will be able to make a real statement at Superleague level this year and keep the current first team players on their toes when it comes to team selection.

"We are just about there now with our team which has a healthy balance of proven experience and exciting youth, which is what we need if we are to repeat last year's achievement."
