The newly relocated Los Angeles Chargers will play the Los Angeles Rams at the city's Memorial Coliseum in one of the highlights of the 65-game NFL pre-season schedule.

"Our entire organisation couldn't be happier to open the pre-season with our fans at the Coliseum," Rams coach Sean McVay said.

"We play four quality opponents that will help us prepare for the regular season and this announcement is another reminder that we are one step closer to returning to football."

Dallas Cowboys open the exhibition season when they face the Arizona Cardinals in the annual Hall of Fame Game on August 3. The Cowboys then play the Rams in LA the following week.
