Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles will miss the rest of the season after suffering two serious injuries in the same play on Sunday.
Sproles was injured during the 27-24 win over the New York Giants and examinations have revealed he sustained a broken arm and torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee on a run play early in the second quarter.
The 34-year-old, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, will need surgery on both injuries.
"It's a devastating loss," Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said.
Having previously contemplated retirement, the injuries could even bring an end to Sproles' career.
Sproles has been in the NFL since 2005 when he was picked in the fourth round of the draft by the then San Diego Chargers.
He has developed into a dual threat as a change-of-pace running back and talented receiver, catching a career-high 86 passes in 2011 with the New Orleans Saints.
The Eagles have been using a variety of running backs so far this season and Sproles' enforced absence could lead to bigger roles for LeGarrette Blount, Wendell Smallwood and undrafted rookie Corey Clement.
