Adrian Peterson's season with the Arizona Cardinals is over, with the team placing him on injured reserve.

The veteran running back, acquired in a trade with the New Orleans Saints in October, has missed Arizona's last two games with a neck injury.

It is reported that Peterson won't need to undergo surgery for the injury, although it could still spell the end of his time with the Cardinals.

Peterson was brought in after star running back David Johnson was lost to injury in Week One. He ran for 134 yards and two touchdowns on his Arizona debut, and racked up 314 rushing yards over his first three games, though he failed to rush for more than 79 yards over the next three games before injury struck.

At 6-7 on the season, the Cardinals still have a very slim chance of making the playoffs in the NFC, needing to win all of their final three games and hope other results go their way.
