The Dallas Cowboys continued to rebuild their wide receiver corps during the NFL Draft with a trade bringing them the speedy Tavon Austin.

Austin was shipped to the Cowboys by the Los Angeles Rams for a sixth-round pick, No 192 overall, which the Rams used to select Maine guard Jamil Demby.

The Cowboys also allowed second-year wide receiver Ryan Switzer to leave in a trade with the Oakland Raiders for defensive tackle Jihad Ward.

Austin, drafted eighth overall in 2013, has made 194 catches for 1,689 yards and 12 touchdowns in his five-year NFL career, but he is not expected to act as a direct replacement for the departed Dez Bryant out wide.

He is more likely to be used predominately out of the backfield as a dual receiving and running threat, having also rushed for 1,238 yards and nine touchdowns on 184 carries, as well as contribute on special teams.

The Cowboys allowed Bryant to leave earlier this month after eight seasons with the franchise to free up an estimated $8m in salary cap space.
