Scott Linehan has left his role as offensive co-ordinator of the Dallas Cowboys after four up-and-down seasons.

Linehan has been with the Cowboys since 2014, first as passing game co-ordinator before taking over the offensive reins a year later.

The Cowboys won the NFC East title three times in his five seasons with the franchise, all of which came under head coach Jason Garrett, but they failed to progress past the Divisional round during the postseason.

They were divisional champions in 2018 and beat the Seattle Seahawks on Wildcard Weekend, but their hopes of further progress ended last weekend in a 30-22 defeat by the Los Angeles Rams.

"This was not an easy decision because of how highly we regard Scott Linehan as a football coach and as a person," Garrett said.

"He and I had some really positive, substantive and open discussions which took place in the latter part of this week, and we ultimately agreed that it would be in the best interest of all of the parties involved if we were to make a change at this position.

"This was very much a mutual decision, and there was a great deal of common ground and shared understanding between both of us during our meetings.
