The Miami Dolphins have placed running back Knowshon Moreno on injured reserve with a season-ending knee injury.

The move came two days after Moreno suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the Dolphins' last-gasp defeat to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday evening.

Moreno had missed the two previous games with an elbow injury having led the NFL with 134 yards rushing in Week One.

Moreno signed a $3.275 million, one-year contract in March after five seasons with the Denver Broncos and his absence will mean a heavier load for Lamar Miller, who is performing well with an average 5.2 yards per carry this season.

The Dolphins have also reinstated reserve defensive lineman Derrick Shelby from his suspension, which came after he was arrested on charges of resisting arrest and trespassing at a nightclub.
